Has anyone traveled alone for surgery?

I am traveling to Lousiana in December to have surgery. I am considering traveling alone. Dr. Hargroder arranges for transportation to and from the airport,including accomodations. Due to financial reasons, I am considering going this journey alone? Has anyone done this alone?
