Anyone else experiencing heavy periods lasting for weeks?

For the last couple of months my periods have been extremely heavy, lasting for 18-21 days,always on time. I went to my Gyn. last week and he ordered a thyroid panel, CBC, and I had a Pap smear. Everything came back within normal limits. He stated that it was probably due to my weight loss, (140 lbs in 14 months), wreaking havoc with my hormones and that I'm no longer ovulating. He gave me an rx. for Provera-to take the first 10 days of the month. Anyone else out there with this annoyance? Thanks a lot.
