Should I look into anouther insurance company before my cobra runs out?

My cobra ins. runs out the end of March and I wanted to know if I should look into getting a new policy before I run out. Does it make a difference on whether a new company will except me? I may not be able to afford it anyway but maybe I should be looking into it? If I wait say six months after cobra before I see about more ins. can that make it harder to purchase?
