What is the statute of limitations to appeal a denial for surgery?

I was denied the first time I sent a letter from my physician. I just found a gentelman who is fight the insurance companies and helping folks like me to get covered. It has been sevral months... Is there a time limitation for making an apppeal?? (I guess I am too impatient to wait for him to return my email) Thanks A BUNCH!!!
