What can happen a month or more after surgery?

I'm not as worried about the anesthesia as I am of, say, pulmonary embolisms, etc. If I'm out of surgery with no problems, discharged with no problems, and its a month or two down the road, how likely is it that I can have major complications after that??? (p.s. I'm having open VBG, BMI of 45, 38 yrs old, never smoked, only comorbids hypertension & GERD). Thanks for the input!
