What is the difference between Distal and Proximal RNY?

I have been reading MANY of the postings here on the website--alot of them mention Distal and Proximal RNY--so what is the difference between the two of them? Is it the way the surgeon cuts you? I have had 2 c-sections, a gall bladder removal (open), does this make a difference in the way they cut you? Can someone in my position that has had these surgeries have LAP RNY? What is the actual size your stoma should be following surgery, so it doesn't stretch too much?
