After the surgery will blood clots be a risk?

I know that you have to keep your legs elevated after surgery for like six weeks and keep standing and walking to prevent blood clots but will they be a risk for you after your surgery? But what about months later? Will I still be at risk, or will I never be able to sit for long periods of time without having to worry about blood clots?
