What kind of follow-up care with your surgeons?

The newsgroup for my surgeon has gotten into a debate about follow up care and whether he does enough follow-up care with post-ops. Some feel he delegates everything to the PCP and doesn't spend enough time with us; others feel he does way better than most surgeons. I'm wondering what the norm is, particularly for those of you who had to go out of town or out of state for surgery.
