Any info on slow stomach emptying prior to surgery?

Slow stomach emptying is called gastroparesis and usually happens to diabetics but I AM NOT DIABETIC. Anyone know anything about this? Will this condition casue problems after surgery? Or will the large part of my stomach be be better because no food will go in there?
