Has anyone been approved when there is an exclusion for WLS with your insurance comp?

I was reading over my policy and there is an exclusion to WLS. It states that it does not cover it. I have not called United Health Care for more information yet because I am afraid of their answer. Has anyone been approved despite an exclusion? Thanks so much for any information.
