Would filtered water [rainsoft] be better to drink than water from the tap?

We've had our water tested, it very hard and has a high chorine amount, you can smell it....After surgery, would it be better to dring water that has been filtered, such as RainSoft, or drink the tap water from the foset [?spelling], any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks
