Is there a difference between gastric stapling and gastric bypass?

My insurance, United Healthcare, states under exclusions that gastric stapling for weight loss is not covered. It also states that weight reduction or control is not covered unless there is a diagnosis of morbid obesity. Does anyone have any more info about this exclusion?
