At what point, post-op can you start swallowing pills?

I am 6 weeks post-op and having a terrible time taking crushed pills. My gag reflex is alive and well. I developed bronchitis and the doc gave me these anti-biotic horse pills to take. I crushed one up yesterday and mixed it in peanutbutter on a cracker, but the tast was so bitter and so strong that I threw up the pill. Need help. Can I cut into 1/4s and swallow at this stage or any suggestions what to mix it into?
