Has anyone been confronted with fragile stomach lining?

I visited a doctor on Friday to discuss candidacy for gastric Bypass. He admits that I need the surgery badly. After examination, he said that I had a hernia(my 3rd) which needed repair, and that my stomach lining was very thin and fragile, causing doubt as to the stitches holding for surgery. I had really built myself up and just knew I would leave his office with a surgery date. If you have had this problem, please let me know if it was solved, and if so, how.
