Can anyone who takes Effexor for depression tell me if you took it continuously?

I am concerned about being able to take my Effexor immediately post op as the Psychologist told me that abruptly stopping this medication makes for a really nasty experience. Did you take it in the regular capsule or open the capsule and put it into something? Thanks for your help. Jill
