I was wondering what the first step would be for WLS?

I have insurance now as of 4/1/00, I dont know if i am to see my pcp first and have him check my comorbidys (if i have any) then refer me to a bariatric surgeon, or do i just have him give me a referrel to a bariatric surgeon and the surgeon does the rest. Do i need to have established comorbitys before i can see a BS? any input would be a great deal of help in this process and steps i need to take. thank you all. Amy
