I have read a few posts where people talk about taking gas meds to the hospital

My surgeon never said anything about bring gas meds or tums or anything like that to the hospital with me. Is this something that I need to do? I have having my surgery in 2 weeks and I want to make sure that I am as prepared as I can be. Thanks a bunch.
