Will my surgeon decide which procedure is best for me?

How will I determine which WLS is best for me? From what I understand, surgeons routinely perform one or the other..not both. And, does insurance usually approve one procedure more readily than the other? I don't expect my PCP to be very helpful in this area and I really want to set up a consultation with a surgeon but I don't know whether to call a 'DS' doc or an 'RNY' doc. Any input here will be greatly appreciated!
