If hbp pills are too large, can they pass through before being absorbed?

I went from three hbp pills pre-op to one post op. I had been cutting the pill in half and my bp was great - 110/70 on average. I tried taking the pill whole, which I easily swallowed, but my bp shot up to 120/94. Once I cut the pill again, it seems to have gone back down - 120/81 this morning. Anyone had similar experience?
