Where do you find physical support for post surgery period?

I am still working on locating a surgeon, but live in a rural area, with insurance and hospital complications to resolve. If I have to drive several hundred miles for surgery, how do I get home, manage at home, and what about complications so far from experienced medical help? Would it be better to "visit my mom" for an extended pre/post surgical stay? It sounds like there are good surgeons and hospitals in Ft.Lauderdale, FL. Any input would help, Thanks, Dawn H, WV
