I have to use the CPAP at the hospital and I haven't been at home
I got my CPAP at the beginning of Feb. 2002. I used it for about 2 nites (full face mask) and then got one of the worst sore throats. I was sick about 2 weeks. I don't know if this was coincidence or not. Anyhow, I went to the Dr. to get my date (3/5/02)- 9 days away, and he said I have to use my CPAP even though I told him it wasn't working out. So, I was thinking maybe I should start using it to get use to it but now I am scared I will get the sore throat and get sick and the surgery will be cancelled. When I was using it, it really dried out my mouth. I know that after surgery the mouth is dry anyway and I am worried that the CPAP will just make it worse. Any suggestions? I know the nose only mask would probably be more comfortable but I couldn't use it. I tried and I couldn't breathe (my nose is always stopped up) and my chest started hurting. Also, I asked the original sleep Dr. about a humidifier when I initially got the machine and he said I really didn't need it. Plus now I feel it is too late to get any more equipment. Any suggestions and comments on similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
