5 years post op RNY and I need advice on what to do for constipation.

I had my RNY surgery 5 years ago. What can I do for constipation after having RNY surgery? I havern't had a bowel movement for 5 days and when I saw my doctor yesterday he told me to take metamucil. I have done this all day yesterday and today but no BM yet. Is this serious?
