Repeat Iron Infusions and Ferritin Levels

Question for the Lucky people who need regular iron infusions. I am 3 years post op. Last year I started Iron Infusions. What criteria does your doctor use to give you another dose. I have had two so far. I don't see why I have to wait until I have symptoms to get the Iron or have my Hgb and Hct drop below normal.
