would VSG help my daughter?

I am going to have VSG June 2 o8,with Dr. A in Mexico.Mydaughter,wants to lose about 45 ibs.She is Type 2 diabetic[insulin dependant].Does anyone know if this surgery would help her.Thanks Brenda
