Anyone over 60 yrs old who had to have the greenfield filter

I was advised by my dr that I would need to have the greenfield filter put in before surgery, because I just had knee replacement, because I was older, and perhaps because I have been on hormone replacements. It is really upsetting to me, as I do not want to take coumadin. I know too many people who have bled to death or suffered stroke like symptoms and had to learn things over. It scares me more than a pulmonary embolism.
