Severe pain under breastbone requiring trip to ER. Could it be gas?
I had sudden onset of extreme pain under my breastbone. It hindered my ability to walk it was so bad. Some positions made it a little better but the pain was so extreme I began vomiting and blacking out. Could this be gas? I went to the Emergency Department where I had tons of tests and they know what it wasn't but not what it was. It's not: ruptured ovarian cyst; gallbladder (removed); appendix (removed); heart issue (EKG ok); perforated bowel or blockage (CTscan clear). I have to go on Wednesday for an endoscopy to see if I have an ulcer but I don't think they will find anything. I had this occur once before at 6 mos post op and they never figured it out then either. I'm now 2.5 years post op. Pain went away on it's own after about 6 hours (which was same as last time). Do we have more severe gas post-op that could cause such pain?
