Are severe hunger pains normal??

I had my surgery 2 years ago. I was not hugh when I had it, but I did lose 85 lbs and went from a size 22 to a size 14. The last several months, I feel hungry all the time. The hunger pains are so intense that it horrible. Has anyone ever heard of this before or what causes it???
