How do I post to the Message Board from my surgery page?

When I read the message Board I see entries in blue that say they are from a person's surgery page. Am I right that they are updating their profile and it shows on the Message Board as well? How do I do that? To be honest I don't even know what the surgery page is, all I've done is update my profile so far. Thanks.
