Who you still have gastric byass/RNY if the remaing stimach had t o be removed?
If you had to have gastric bypass ( I have been diagnosed with gastroparesis due to damage from lap band surgery) would you have a harder decision to make or would it not matter. I am only 37 and have a BMI of 37 but my stomach is paralyzed and the only option is bypass. I am scared of losing the remaining stomach because you never know what may happen down the road. I hope to have many more years ahead of me. I know the choice is totally up to me but really need some opinions. My surgery is scheduled for April 30th. The surgeon just gave me an option to "try" and save my stomach after bypass by inserting a drain tube to be left in for 4 weeks after surgery. This tube would drain the stomach after surgery and eventually be clamped off to see if the remaining stomach will drain on its own. If things go well, no guarantees, then the tube is removed and all is well. If not a second surgery to remove the stomach is done immediately because the risk of dialation, preforation or even exploding is high and can cause death. So is it worth the healing twice for something that may not work or is it worth a shot? All opinions are welcomed since I hace been told the choice is mine and I don't have long to decide. I am afraid that if it remains in that every pain and stomach ache will put me in a panic that it needs to come out. Thanks
