Hernia repair without TT?

Has anyone had a hernia repaired without a TT where it has made any difference in your waist or how your abdomen appears? I have the protruding area where there is the hernia. I'd like to have the TT done but I'm sure I'll have to self-pay for that and at this point there are other things that are of a higher priority. I'm wondering if I go ahead with the hernia repair (which insurance will cover) that perhaps some of the bulge will disappear! Thanks to all!
