Is it normal to start having tests done before insurance approval?

I have so far had a consult with the dr., had a nutrition class, my psych eval. (passed! who knew hehe), and 1 group meeting with 4 more to go. I got a message saying my dr. had schedueled a test for me. I haven't heard anything from my insurance yet....Thanks to all for responding. Also, this is a great web site and everyone is so great to help those of us who are just starting....
