Have to have an EGD, very scare for me! Please advise!

I'm pre-op (approved but not scheduled yet) and was told today I'd have to have an EGD done before surgery. I am so scared of anything medical (its a miracle I'm okay with surgery) and the idea of something going down my throat is making me panic. Can I get some stories of what to expect? Thank you!!
