Why does your shoe size get smaller after you lose weight?

I am so baffled, because I have read many profiles where they have said that their shoe size has gotten smaller...I dont understand because, I did not think your foot could shrink...Maybe I am wrong...If anyone knows the answer to this question please enlighten me....
