Does anyone know the formula to figure your basal Metabolic Rate?

I seem to remember that there was a formula that you could use to figure how many calories to take in JUST to keep you at your current weight- I think it is called the basal metabolic rate. Obviously, if you NEVER did anything but lay around and you took in less than that amount of calories, logically you would lose weight- more and you would gain. Anybody know that formula? Thanks!
