Will my surgery be denied by my insurance company if I lose weight prior to surgery?

I've had two consultations with the surgeon. My next visit is January 2001. They have put me on the Atkins Diet and want me to lose about 20-30 pounds before they can schedule a surgery date for a lap RNY. I am currently 5'3" and 280 lbs. (I've lost 7 lbs. on the diet thus far). I would love to lose 30 pounds before January, but my insurance will only pay for the surgery if "the patient is twice normal weight." Normal weight for a woman 5'3" is 120-140 lbs. If I get down to 250 lbs., will the insurance refuse to pay? They'll approve at 280 I know, but..... Or do you think I'm worrying too much?
