If FIVE FEET is bypassed is that Proximal or Distal?

My surgeon says he bypassed 5 feet of my intestines. I've never heard of it referred to it that way before from all the postings here. I always read about proximal or distal and even how many cm was bypassed. Anybody know what a bypass of 5 feet is?
