Those of you with asthma (or an abundance of medical knowledge)
I received the referal to meet with my surgeon...however, my PCP refused to "medically clear" me for surgery for right now. She wants me to have a pulmonary test done, (which I have tomorrow) and she has also started playing with my asthma meds (I was on Flovent and albuterol...she's keeping me on albuterol and switching me from Flovent to Advair.) On the one hand I'm happy about that b/c obviously I'll start feeling better once I get the right combination of meds but on the other I'm a little worried because I don't know if this will prevent me from having this surgery. As long as my asthma gets under control, will I have to worry about whether she'll medically clear me or not? Also, my friend and I went out to eat yesterday and she asked me a question that I blew off but am more concerned now that I've thought about it. My doc said that Advair is an oral steroid and will work better than the inhaled steroid I was on...and when I asked her if I'd gain weight on it, she sorta "poo-pooed" the whole idea. But then my friend had the EXACT same thought when I told her about it...so if any of you are on Advair or know about it, can you let me know if, once I'm cleared for surgery and have it, it would work AGAINST my weight loss? Finally, I've had asthma since I was a baby, never outgrew it or anything...and when I was really young, it was severe but grew less so as I got older. Now, it's getting uncontrolled again and I was wondering if this is due to the amount of weight I've put on over the past few years. Sorry, I know that question was looooong, but if you can answer any/all of the questions, I'd feel so much better. Thank you!
