Does anyone use yerba mate for healing and nutrition?
I've just discovered yerba mate, which is a tea-like substance from South America made from the leaves of the South American Holly. There are a number of positive health effects associated with this drink, as well as a plethora of nutrients. Most notibly, this drink has gastrointestinal, fatigue, immune system and metabolic properties...sounds good, doesn't it? It also has a xanthine alkaloid similar to caffiene (called mateine), but doesn't have the negative effects that caffiene does--proported rather to enhance delta and rem sleep rather than prevent it. In any case, I'm drinking it because I like it. However, I've done some research on it (I like to know what I put in my body!) and it seems that this herbal infusion would prove beneficial to us before and after surgery...or at least it wouldn't have any contraindications. Does anyone use this or can anyone comment? Here's a URL if you want to do a quick read. I in no way have any affiliation with anything to do with this site or this herb...just wanted to give you all a quick way to find out what this is all about...there are plenty of other sites out there! http://www.healthfree.com/Yerba%20Mate.htm#. Peace.
