Did any of you spend your hospital time completely alone?

My girlfriend who had said "I will help you through this" told me last night that her plans had changed and she could take me and pick me up but could not be there during my stay. Will I be shoved in a corner and forgotten. I'm a strong person and don't mind pushing a button for help, but I've had plenty of relatives in the hospital where the help just was not available through the staff. Help! I'm scared and thinking of not doing this on May 14. I'm divorced and my recent boyfriend has disappeared, probably afraid I would ask something of him. Will I live? I am so upset I could not even go to work this morning!
