Have any post-ops traveled to developing nations?

I was a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa and married a host country national. We plan on taking our kids back to introduce them to friends and family in 2005. I'm still pre-op (waiting for my 1st consultation), but trying to find out how to handle post-op life! Having lived there, I know firsthand that medical support is nothing like we have here. I also doubt that any Drs. there have much experience with WLS (fat is beautiful--if you're fat, you must be rich enough to afford plenty of food. When we went back to visit 4 years ago, my brother-in-law greeted me with "You're so FAT and beautiful!" I had been 60 lbs. lighter when I left Africa after my only successful 'diet' of starvation (no food available where I was posted) and amoebas.) So, has anyone else traveled to a developing country and if so, what precautions did you take?
