Are ulcers common post-op RNY? How do you get rid of them?
I am a little over 10 months post-op RNY. I have had ulcers since about 3 months post-op. I have never in my life had an ulcer pre-op. I know that because I did have a scope pre-op that showed no ulcers. Anyhow, I had my 5th scope this week & once again I have not one but now 2 ulcers!! Why is this? If I wasn't prone to them pre-op why am I now? I wouldn't really care about them if they weren't bothering me but they are making me sick & nauseated most of the time. When I went in for the scope the gastro Dr. looked at me like I'm nuts. Like why am I in here type thing. He said to me you do realize RNY surgery is suppose to make you sick. I realize that BUT sick all the time no matter what I eat? Even 10 months post-op? I don't know I have a hard time believing that! I have been on 4 different meds. for my ulcers & they have responded to none of them! Is this normal? The gastro's recommedation is to get off the ulcer meds!!??? How in the world is that going to help??? Should my ulcer just heal on its own? Will it ever go away? The only one that seems a little concerned about this is my PCP. He cacluclated out due to my weight loss I am only eating 600-700 calories a day. Due to the fact of me being nauseated all the time. But my blood work most always come back just fine. So I guess that is a good thing! Should I be concered about these ulcers? Or is this just normal as my surgeon & the gastro Dr. kind of indicated. How can I get rid of my ulcers if they haven't responded to previous treatments with meds?
