Should I get some extra life insurance

I just got approved (yea!)and as I think about it all, I wonder if I should get some additional life insurance - just incase...Is it legal to get life ins., prior to surgery? Our ins. agent is also a family friend and I don't want to ask and then have to explain anything. I know it sounds a little morbid, but hey, It would be one less worry (for us all).
