What's the reason for elevated liver enzymes?

I am trying to anatomically/physiologically figure out what it is about RNY that causes an elevation in our liver enzymes. My SGOT was elevated at a year out and the surgeon didn't seem too concerned. I've seen others with elevations. Can anyone explain why we would have liver problems post op? Thanx! Shelley
