Wow...I'm about to write a new blog post that's sort of about the same thing.  In fact I have an old blog post about unrealistic expectations and people telling us that we shouldn't expect to be able to do certain things.  NOT!  Here's the post:

http://bariatricgirl.blogspot.com/2008/08/unrealistic-expect ations-is-that-fair.html

If we do not believe in ourselves we will sabotage ourselves right into failure.  LOVE LOVE LOVE your post!

Topic: Prove to yourself that you were right

Hi everyone,
I subscribe to Flylady.net (organizing one's life 15 minutes at a time) and one of the daily e-mails came from Jonathan  a fitness trainer associated with the site. I found it interesting and thought you might like it as well.

Prove to yourself that you were right!

Jonathan here: I read about the concept of:

Stop trying to prove other people wrong and focus on proving yourself right!

in one of the motivation books I received for Christmas: "Three Feet from Gold: Turn Your Obstacles into Opportunities!" by Sharon Lechter and Greg Reid.

Please read the above powerful statement over again.

There is no shortage of doubters in the world. When friends or family
or whoever say things like:

You can't do that.
You won't be able to get fit.
Is walking or running your first 5K realistic?
Who are you to walk or run a marathon?
Didn't you try to lose the weight before?

they are not necessarily trying to rain on your parade but are probably just speaking from their own insecurities.

It is human nature to try to prove our doubters wrong. But what will happen if you put 100% of our focus into proving yourself right? Your rocket will leave the pad and you will shock yourself with who you become!

You are more powerful than you have ever imagined and the high-energy and healthy version of yourself is within you and is ready to be revealed to the world and I say that you make 2010 the year!

Take small steps each day, make yourself and your health a top priority and follow my lead and you will soon Prove to yourself that you were right!

Oh let me tell you.  The oldest was a girl who was stoned 24/7 and on other things too sometimes.  I knew it and her parents were in total denial and I was nobody.  When she finally got in so much trouble she was put in juvenile and was to stay there for 3 days and see a judge.  She was safe, she had a roof over her head and most of all there would be consequences.  Her dad got her out before she saw the judge.  She was stealing things that were valuable to me like my senior ring, cameras, a really expensive VCR (back then) and was destroying my house.  She was truly a sociopath and delighted in stealing her girlfriends boyfriends.  She would wear out her welcome with one grandmother, her mother, then us.  She kept switching around (one grandmother was smart enough to not participate).  It was because of sending her to a medical thing that they tested the whole family and found out I was a super bad co-dependent.  They were 2 point questions and I got a 98 so I probably lied on that one question.  It was thanks to that therapy that I learned that I could no longer stay in that house nor could I continue to work for my dad because I spent my whole life looking for his approval.  For 7 months I got up every day saying I am going to Dallas and leaving my house behind and my job and family business because if I don't, I will die.  I left with my clothes and some of my things and got a ride in a pick up truck with no air conditioning and rode to Dallas and started completely over at 33.  Because of a 401K I was able to buy a crappy car to get to work. A few years after I left I found out she took some PCP and broke through the front door of the condo (the door was metal) and she was 90 something pounds dripping wet.  No one learned still.  She finally was caught driving a get away car during a bank robbery and went to jail.  She was very very ill and I escaped with my life.  It was strained with my dad for quite a while but it was the smartest thing I ever did.  I learned that I finally broke free of the approval thing when my dad made a remark about my surgery one day when he said one of my cousins was looking great after having gastric bypass and she didn't take it too far like I did.  Before it would have crushed me but I just figured that was his opinion and I've got mine so we can agree to disagree.  So funny...I spent years being told I needed to lose weight and now I'm too thin.  It is what it is!
hugs, Y

There are days when I wonder myself how I do it??  It's almost like life after surgery, minute by minute, hour by hour and day by day.  I too love me some four legged children!

Hope everyone is doing well.  Up here in Indy we are getting one of our February snow storms.. BBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR  it's cold...

Just taking a look at Super Nanny.  I think it would be an excellent incentive for birth control....  On the serious side I bow down to all of you that are parents.  I don't know how you do it sometimes.  I have a brother that is an extreme paranoid schizophrenic and to say that his mental illness didn't effect the entire family (and still does) is an understatement.  It was such a struggle and I was even married before with some really bad step children that I had my tubes tied at 31.  The doc asked me if I was really sure and I told him that if he met my step children he would do it for free and if he didn't do it, I was going to the vet.  My brother's illness left such a permanent effect on me and then with step children that were REALLY bad...I stuck with 4 legged children.  Again....bless those that manage to have children and get them grown and you live through it!

This is again another of many stories I have heard about thing being found BECAUSE of weight loss surgery.  I know it will delay things but how wonderful they found it and you'll get it taken care of.  What a blessing and isn't it amazing about all the things we find out on forums.  As crazy as it sounds I found out my mom had lymphodema by going on the internet.  Her oncologist didn't seem to care....she was 70 and I guess he felt she lived long enough.  One of her legs was badly swollen and I went to a cancer site and typed in "swollen leg" and got lymphodema.  I emailed it to her and she took the info to the doctor.  He said " yep that's what it is".  There's even more to this shocking story but this post is about you my darling but it just goes to show the powerful information available to us.  Granted you have to double check because you can get wrong info too but it's the way I have gotten help on several problems.  Bless your heart..just know that your day is coming and it will be all for the better!  Thanks for letting us know!!
hugs, Y
