Every 3 months?  Bless your heart sweetie and you do have a point indeed.  Teeth are a bit more important....you can't cover that up can you?  Are you taking your vitamins like a good girl?  We sure don't want your calcium levels going down.  Wow...truly great things come to those who wait and you were incredibly patient and deserving at the same time.  I try to tell new post-ops that they shouldn't keep from dating because of loose skin.  I met my husband with my loose skin and he saw my heart.   I was so very fortunate that he fixed it for me too.  I had never been on a board yet and didn't know that some post-ops would never consider dating because of their skin.  I ididn't know any better! We are capable of so much and we hold ourselves back because of the critical voice that holds us down.

I'm so very happy for you and can't wait for those pictures!

Welcome Brad,
You will love this group. Everyone is so kind and there's no in your face type arguments going on. I came across one of your posts when you were attacked awhile back and  I couldn't believe it .....anyway I usually stay away from the main boards. This group is great for support and education. I'm like Katie in that my husband and I have both have had RNY surgery. His was open about a year ago and mine was lap 14 days ago. I think it does help to have the both of us going through it. I have to admit when hubby went first I did have some insecuritites at the beginning when he received more attention from the opposite sex. Just remember to tell your wife how much you love her. I know you do, but its good to reinforce that and trust me even if she doen't verbalize her fears, those little things  will make her feel much better.

Thanks Yvonne, I wish every person could do this !  I know it isn't easy.  I actually was planning on having it done two years after my RNY but I found out that summer that my two front teeth were going to fall out.  I had injured them when I was a child and had crowns on them for 40 years and the bone that held in the roots was gone so the teeth were going to fall out.  I didn't want to have a plate so I had to pay for Implants, insurance doesn't cover that either.  So to make a long story short, it took me 4 years to get it all done, my body just didn't want to rebuild the bone for the implants.  When it finally worked last year the dentist was ready to do backflips !  I had to have oral surgery approximately once every three months during that time frame trying to get the bone back, it was a long long long process.  Oh, and expensive.  So since you can cover the skin with clothes but can't stop smiling I had to choose the teeth first.  I don't regret that either.

Everything in its time !

Pictures to follow in a few weeks !

Hi Katie!
It is very good to meet you as well and hear your story.  That is awesome about you and your hubby!  It is great that you both could get the surgery and go through it together!  Now you each know what the other is going thru and you will be great support for each other.

I know what you mean about the friend thing as well.  Although I don't think its as big a deal with men, me and my good friend of 20 years got on the scale the other day and I am not too far off from catching him!  We joked about it, and I don't think he was too worried about it, but i thought it was funny you mentioned that.  And yes, I sooooo am ready to be able to shop at regular stores.  I mean, I do want to be healthy, but I really, really want to be able to shop at regular stores.  This will be so exciting for me.  I am also holding off buying new clothes.  I am off work till at least april and I don't have to go out much, so I am putting it off as long as I can.  I think by April i will have to go get new clothes.

That is also so cute about your daughters.  Kids are good at remembering things and they will keep you and your hubby on track!  My wife has a 10 year old sister (yes, a 20 year difference!) and she remembers everything and will call you out on stuff if you are slipping up :)

But it is very good to tlk to you, and it you or your hubby would like to be friends(if he is on here too), just send me a friend request.  I would be happy to accept!

Keep in touch!
Brad

You know, I've seen those videos!  I was thinking I could put my hair up and hide it under the hat or I could use the brunette wig I used in my video "The stigma against weight loss surgery".  I'll put this on my list!

I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You are right, it does make a difference and the PS is the second best thing I did.  I still am uncomfortable discussing it on any other board because some people....well, they aren't nice and some cannot get it and I don't want anyone to feel badly.  I did make a point at one event that changed a lot of minds about whether they could afford it.  I told one lady that we buy a car and it only lasts so many years but PS is forever and that I would work an extra job or drive a lesser car to do it.  They have some loans available where you can put down a certain amount of money and can pay it off over time and some with no interest if you do it within a year.  I feel badly for the women that don't think the investment is worth asking their family for.  I feel more badly for the ones that just can't get it (that really want it).  I do believe that you can do magic with undergarments though and so we have to work with what we've got and be happy!

I'm so happy for you and now you have to promise to stay with us!  When the swelling goes down you have to take some pictures OK??  I think you deserved it because you had WLS so long ago and you succeeded.  Thank you for sharing and enjoy it every single day.
WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Topic: RE: Hello everyone!
I'm SOOOOOOOO glad you talked about wanting to fit in smaller clothes because in my haste of trying to make a very important point I left out another important one.  I have a term for things people say over and over in the boards that may or may not be true but members start repeating them like it's gospel.  One of them is the whole thing about that it's only cool to say "I want to get healthy".  There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with wanting to be more attractive.  That's as normal as the air we breathe but some people think that's vain.  NOPE!  Part of being obese is that some of us feel ugly so why wouldn't we want to wear normal sized clothes and feel good in them??  It's what you do with your better looking body that counts.  I have been criticized for the pictures of my and my Cello and Guitar but there will always be haters.  Oh...in case you're wondering why you have ***** in some of your words it's because you forgot to put a space in between some words and there was a word in the middle that the profanity filter kicked out.  We have a thread on the Texas Board called "The Nigh****chman" and when you don't put a space in between the night and watch you'll get the filter every time.  I thought I'd explain in case you didn't know.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to give up the "fattest friend" trophy.  You see how our disease has us thinking?  You think it's selfish?  Not at all.  When you make a statement ask yourself if you see any of the following...
blame
shame
judgment
guilt
If it does, rethink it.  Those emotions suck the life out of us.

Regarding Oprah.  I did a post about why Oprah cannot support the surgery.  Here's the link.
http://bariatricgirl.blogspot.com/2009/08/giving-oprah-weigh t-loss-surgery-break.html

And me too on the 4 legged children.  If you read through the top introduction link you'll see we have a lot of members with them.  I never had kids so they ARE my kids.  I have always liked my animals a little more than people because of the love they give.  They never saw my fat and loved my unconditionally.  Thanks for the kind words.  I especially liked the young part and I am young at heart, just older on the outside.  I had surgery when I was 47.  I'm 55 now.

I also have a post about the toxic trauma drama on the boards.  It's here:
http://bariatricgirl.blogspot.com/2009/03/toxic-trauma-drama -at-wls-ranch.html

It makes me very sad when people are told they have a less than surgery...especially when you've already had it or it is the choice you made.  It is so important to believe in your surgery 100%.  It's hard enough to do this thing without feeling like you are "less than" all over again.  The surgery wars are destroying so many lives and I know exactly who you are speaking of and I look at it like this.  I try to be grateful that I don't have to live in any of those people's heads and try to pass on by and continue down my road to success.  When people are miserable they want you to join them.  I just wish there was not so much damage done.  I know people that have failed and succeeded in all types of surgery.  I knew 3 people very closely that have died.  One died because she couldn't get the surgery and had an adult special needs daughter and could no longer lift her because of her obesity.  She and I corresponded for 9 months and we wrote everyone we could.  Famous people, doctors, everyone and no one could help.  She put her daughter and herself in the car in the garage and left the engine running.  It nearly destroyed me.  Another was a beautiful woman that shared my love of animals.  She had a DS and died a few days after surgery.  The last was a fairly long term post-op.  Cross addiction got him in the end.  Another video....this is one I did as a tribute to him:

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for sharing.
hugs, Y

OK, I have to make a remark on my body !  I had my TT and Brachio 3 weeks ago yesterday.  I am not a vain person (well I don't think so).  I am only 5'2" tall and my mother has always looked petite to me (she is 5'1 and never heavy), I was always fat until I had my RNY 7 years ago.  Even though I have loved my weight loss and was happy at my weight (not as low as the charts say I should be but after years of obesity, I am thrilled with it)  I would look in the mirror and was not really satisfied.  Now everytime I go into my bathroom I have to look sideways in the mirror as I go out and am amazed at the person in the mirror !   It is this petite person with a small waist and small arms, my upper body looks so different, and GOOD ! ! !  I can't believe the difference it is making.  My clothes hang so much better, I still wear large tops to be comfortable, I don't like tightness and with the big arms they were always feeling snug, now the arms fit great, room to spare which also means it fits across my shoulders better (and now I can go down to medium)!   I am just amazed !

I went to the bowling alley with my DH last night and my friend that is subbing for me hadn't seen me since my surgery.  She was amazed also, she didn't think it would make as big of a difference as it has either !

I am a blessed person, I am thankful for my DH and his willingness to spend the money on this, yes it is our money but it is a big investment !  I am thankful for my RNY Dr, and especially for my PS DR, what a wonderful person he is, so skilled and wonderful!   It was worth every penny !

I am grateful for all the information I get from all of the OH sites, the PS site is full of so much knowledge and great people.  The BOTT site, helps keep me accountable and safe, the Michigan site has so many great caring people, always there to assist,  the WLS-Success through Positive Powerful Attitudes - just as it name says, a positive site !  I have so many friends on OH that it overwhelms me!   Why did I stay away for 4 years !  I will not dwell on that because I have been back now for 4 months and intend to never leave again !  I need all these friends and this support !
