Hi Diana!

I have had fears here and there.  And I have been doing my fair share of worrying if I am choosing the right surgery.   But I always seem to be drawn back to my choice and now I feel confident and everything seems to be falling into place.  You will be fine :):)

First Let me say Welcome Greg.

I think we all make the mistake that because the name of the group is 'Positive Attitudes'  that we can't talk about feeling negative. I beleive the goal of the group is helping one another in a positive way, I beleive Yvonne created this group as a response to the negativity that goes on in places like the main forum. (Please correct me if I am wrong Yvonne)

Change is very difficult for many of us. Maybe the total change will be a good thing. You won't be in the same old routine, now you get to start a whole New routine. A healthier and happier routine.  As for the speed of weight loss, I think Many of us are frustrated by  how long it takes.   You may want to take a look at your protein and water intake, maybe even your food intake, oddley enough I found when I didn't eat enough or get enough protein, my weight loss slowed.

Be Well

Topic: Hello from a perplexed newbie...
I have a history of being a positive, friendly guy. I think, some friends might say, to a fault... but that's another post.

The past week I haven't felt very positive. Help me out, my positive friends!! I had surgery Feb. 9th, RNY, and have only lost 16 pounds since then. Sure feels like a heck of a lot of work, pain and $$ to have gone through for such an inauspicious start on my "journey." Part of the problem is that magic point of 300 pounds, which I really expected to be under by now. It's 312... which (positively speaking) is less than I've weighed in years, years, years. And I certainly do show all the weight loss in my face (see my pics) and people say so.

Perhaps I'm losing more slowly because over the year before surgery I lost 56 pounds (including the 15 or so during the liquid pre-op diet)?

I'm an impatient patient, people!

OK, feeling a little guilty about not sharing the good news for y'all... the pain of surgery for me was not a big deal... got off my meds by two weeks out. Haven't had any problems keeping down my liquids or mushies. Today I feel fine, no pain, no issues. Just frustration... and perhaps a bit of weariness at all the change. My boss took the opportunity of my three weeks off work to change my work schedule from early mornings to late afternoons (used to get to work at 5:30am, now get in at 11am... I like the change, really I do, but it's a change). So... I have new eating, new sleeping, etc patterns to deal with. Two weeks back at work after three weeks off, and I'm just having a pity party today.

OK, enough about me. Hope all of you are having a fabulous day!!

Welcome welcome Diana!

This is the positive place to be..

that means... yes you can express your concerns... the difference is you won't get blasted over a comment! WE really try to put the positive side forward... believe me there is no shortage of positive things to say about WLS!

I had some fears also going into this... but now almost 8 months out from surgery I can say I wish I had done it sooner... I was 52 when i had my surgery.. so my dear you are ahead of the game!

do your research.. ask lots of questions and move forward!

Congratulations!

Dear Diana,
We have a lot in common!  I also started very young with the diets and I also lost my mom to a long battle with cancer and was also totally devastated and went deeper into my isolation and shame.  I am very impressed! You lost 85 pounds??? And you kept it off a year????  Do you know how hard that is?  I never was able to lose that much at a time.  That tells me that you are an excellent candidate for this journey.  If you can lose 85 pounds on your own that's phenomenal!  I also love yoga!  It's OK that you don't have furry children.  I love that you have lizards.  I had tons of those when I was a kid.  I loved all little animals of all kinds.  I'm so glad you're here!

For those that got here the same way, Diana wrote me through email and I invited her to come and join our family. YEA!! She showed up and introduced herself.
hugs, Y

I know the introductions get lost sometimes so I wanted to post a new thread to call attention to a new member posting.  If you respond to this post I'll make sure she knows.  This is her introduction.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Diana - and I am 43.  I have started the process towards wls but I am suddenly getting very scared and nervous about the surgery choice- maybe I have been reading too many negative stories - so I am here for the positives .!  :)   I  have been heavy since I was 6 - and have fought the ups and downs my whole life.  I watched my Mom suffer terribly from cancer and lost her in 2005.  Totally devasted and depressed I ate and slept my way through the next two years.  In 2007 at  295 - I started a liquid fast and lost 85 pds.    However - even with exercising I only kept it off for about a year or so...  And now I am again back to 285.  Very depressing!

This past September I had a  weird health scare -sudden motor and sensory nerve damage to my legs - causing me to fall several times (breaking my whole right foot) before staying down.  The doctors have no explanation for this paralysis in my right leg.   The thought is maybe I pinched a nerve or something.  But it has gone away which I am very grateful for.  But my thoughts keep drifting to whether my weight is the real cause behind my leg issues - so I  want to do my body a favor and get rid of this weight  - yes  again..

I am married with two young daughters and would like to be a healthy example for them.  I work full time in Boston in Finance and love my job - and try to get to the gym at lunch as often as possible.  I really enjoy weight lifting, yoga, zumba - everything about working out.  However I have noticed it is so much easier and fun when you weigh less!

Sorry Y   - but I have no furry pets!  I have allergies since I was a baby.  But I do have lizards!  lol   I have a 20 year old tiger salamander named spot, a 2 year old beardie named pumpkin, 3 year old leopard gecko named Nico, and a wacko crested gecko named Crash (and yes because he crashes into the glass cage!!  lol).

Anyway - I am here for the positives - :)

Thanks!
