WLS Success-through Powerful Positive Attitudes
Recent Posts
I followed you over to this board and lurked for a few days - and felt it was a good place for me - there's a lot to be said for surrounding yourself with positive energy to get through rough times and to share the good times. And even when we are at our worse - there's usually someone else who can use our love and kindness and giving always makes me feel better.
I really believe in all of the things "that which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger" and "God doesn't give us more than we can handle" and "when a door closes, a window opens". Sometimes, we do need to be reminded of these things - and our Support Group and the people on OH have been my best source of strength and support since I started this journey with our beloved Dr. M almost 1 1/2 years ago. I've lost a whole person SO FAR (although I still have her skin .... ) and I'm inching closer to a weight I'm not embarassed of! Everything in time - and I'm learning every step of the way. I am becoming the person I am supposed to be - and despite the thoughts that I wish I had done this sooner - I believe that this was the right time for me - and I may not have been successful before now.
Wow - my goal weight is 76 pounds away! That means I have already lost 2/3 of the weight I set out to lose - and my goal weight includes whatever ends up coming off through plastic surgery! I know that I may end up changing that goal when it gets closer - I don't aspire to be a size 4 (I love and respect all of you tiny postOps out there, I'm just being realistic about what I can achieve) I am taking everything 10 pounds at a time. Everytime that scale drops another decade on the scale - as it's about to go into the 230s soon - I just get glowy and excited! Knowing that once it goes into the 230s, it will never be in the 240s again ... and the magical day that weight starts with a ONE! I guarantee you will all hear my shouts of JOY from your homes.
So, thanks for the warm welcomes from everyone. I'm looking so forward to getting to know more of you!
Hugs and love,
Diane
Bankruptcy was not entered into lightly - belive me. I shed a lot of tears over it - but I we are so much better off now. No more getting nauseaous making out the bills - What a relief!!!! I swear to god I will never use another CC again. Now I just need to get a budget going - but still waiting for the other stuff to get cleared up - Oh found out yesterday that the trustee will Settle the annuity thing.
he gets 80% - we get 20%. I was a bit annoyed, but we are so much better of now - and I can't spend my time being upset over that. So now I wait til I get the official word on that - and I guess he will make the arrangements to "cash out" the annuity.
I got another dose of cortisone in my heels yesterday..feels good again. Going to therapy on Monday and getting casted for orthotics! I guess things are lookin up!!!!!

I gotta add my kudos for your amazing achievement of 200+ pounds lost. That is amazing!
You mention you are an evangelizer, so I bet you are not really a shy person, but actually get energy from being with other people. I know I do. I have trouble motivating myself to go alone to the gym or do workouts alone at home... but when I have an appointment for a class I feel much more motivated to get out and be there at the specific time. I'm looking for low-impact aerobics or jazzercize or something in my area that fits my schedule, because I'm having success getting to a yoga class I found that I like.
Of course, learning to see ourselves less as "disabled" or unable to move... and more like the active, movement-oriented people we're becoming... is important. I hear you about your knee... I guess that really can derail the "best laid plans" lol but remember to stand up for yourself... and maybe investigate getting some shots in the knee (they really help my wife... not cortizone, but something else new that helps a lot with pain every three months) or even eventually a knee replacement. That's a long road, but a healthy one to pursue! Remember, you're worth it. I'm still getting used to saying that to myself... I'm worth it. I can aspire to more health-wise. I can feel less like an elderly person at the ripe old age of 49.
OK, I guess my coffee is kicking in, I'm getting all preachy this morning!!
So glad you're hear, Molly... keep checking back and bestest best wishes to you as you get back on track. Forgive and forget the past and focus on today and your next step, however small, in the right direction. Joining this group was a great step!!!
And again, applaud yourself for your major achievement since surgery of an amazing weight loss. Even with your knee problem, you must feel a world better without that 200 pounds, yes??
WOW that is AWESOME.. Way to go on your weight loss! How exciting to know you will officially be under that weight in the next week!
Make sure you take pictures throughout your journey so you have those to reflect back on and see your amazing accomplishments!
Congrats!!

Hi all-
This is a subject that I discuss frequently with one of my dear WLS friends. We really feel like this needs to be researched and discussed more in the Bariatric community.
My low blood sugar episodes started when I was 1 year out and I seriously had no clue what was going on because I didn't know the symptoms. Mine will drop to the 40's and it's not a good feeling physically or mentally.
I know there is talk about the amount of protein and carbs we take in etc.. I feel like when I ask the doc's and dietitians I get that "we are still baffled look". I welcome more research, discussions and getting the word out to patients about the symptoms to help put the awareness out there and educate our WLS friends & Family!! :)
Have a great day everyone ~

Hey, guess what? Six weeks and one day out... and today I weigh 304... 80 pounds less than January 2008 when I began this journey in earnest (24 lbs lost since surgery day). Sometime in the next week I will be under 300 pounds for the first time in many, many years!!

Im sorry your having issues with the blood sugar levels. I wish I had info for you that would help..but sadly I do not. I have noticed though that I have not had issues with mine as much since I have been off my BP medication..I go back to the Dr today to see if I have remained with a normal range BP and get to stay off of it permanently! I still have to make sure I have a good protein bar with me so if I get shaky I can munch on that instead of grabbing something I shouldn't. I hope they don't tell you that you have to gain some weight back..I know how hard you must have worked to take that weight off.
Hang in there girlie friend..if I see anything on the boards about this I will pass it along to you. Hugs..Katie
