WLS Success-through Powerful Positive Attitudes

My name is Diana and I live in Kettering, OH. I am having my RNY this Monday. I was invited here when I posted this topic on the main board "Do You Plan for Failure".. I wrote this because so many people were focused on the negative and with complications they had not faced. A big Example "I just spent an hour on the "Failed WLS Forum OMG. So much doom and gloom.
I am a very positive person. I know the risks but I am armed with knowledge and I do dot spend my time being anxious, nervous or frightened. I have been positive every aspect of my upcoming WLS. I am happy and excited.
I needed something different, something good and welcoming.
But I will keep in mind - how things will be.!..:)
hugs, Y

When my husband was in deployed, everything on the news kept me upset and worried. I finally decided that I won't put my head in the sand and hide, but I am not going to purposely subject myself to that kind of upset. I will read about it on the news site, and if it is something I need to find out more about, then I will look into it.
When I was trying to understand my surgery, I was looking in all different places for answers, and someone suggested OH. At first I liked it, then the arguments took their toll. I decided the same as I did with deployment and news, that I would read some things and leave others behind. I still go to the Main board sometimes, but I have found that I just don't enjoy it over there.
I am involved in this group and two others, and right now, they are all very positive and just what I need. I hope that more people will tell others about this group, as Molly did me.
Daily Inspiration for April 8, 2010
Respect yourself.
If your self image is built on self respect, and not on the tenuous respect of others, then you are invincible. When you base how you feel about yourself on what others think, then you go into the world vulnerable. And no one gets through this life without criticism or unkind words directed at them from time to time. No one.
Be yourself. Be the person you want to be. Be a person you can respect. How do you do that? Identify your values and live by them. When you develop a track record of meeting your own standards, then no matter what negative comments come your way, they bounce off you and you are not so deeply hurt. People treat each other poorly out of jealousy and out of their own poor self image. When someone puts you down, they are attempting to elevate themselves. Don't let them get to you.
Action for the day: In your journal, make a list of your values and the standards by which you want to live. Work on living up to your own ideals. Impress only yourself.

Exactly! I think that tells more than they realize. I suspect that if we could see into their world that we would see why they are so angry. One of my favorite blog posts is how "what others think of us is none of our business". It was a hard lesson for me to learn. Like I said, I go to the main board from time to time to help someone I can help. I rarely post late in a thread because any threads that get long are almost always nasty. Thanks everyone for your kind words. If and when you are somewhere else on OH and you see someone that needs this group, please invite them. I love our family here and would love to see more get to take advantage of it.
Big hugs my love, Y
