Greg I'm soooooooo proud of you for doing yoga.  Believe me that's great exercise.  It's really the only exercise I do and people think I pump iron at the gym.  Keeping that flexibility will help you as you age and it will keep you from getting really stiff.  Way to go!

Don't be overly concerned but DO call your doc.  We so often feel like we are going to bother someone if we call but definitely call.  I was in the hospital for 5 days and definitely didn't have one until I got home and when I did it was very loose.  After anesthesia we have to worry about constipation anyway.  Please call the doc first thing on Monday and just talk to someone to be safe because I don't want you to worry!  Don't worry about being gross, that's why we are here!

You're an inspiration... I'm struggling with exercise myself. Just hasn't been part of my life for so long, and I've had a change of work schedule. I'm making a regular Monday morning Yoga class, and it's really paying off flexibility-wise (look who can tie his own shoes again!). I think I need to find actual morning CLASSES for aerobic exercise a couple times a week. I do manage to walk a couple times a week, but just haven't gotten this a regular groove yet.

So... thanks very much for the reminder that exercise FEELS GOOD!

You go, JEllen!

I found my BM habits changed a lot after my surgery 8 weeks ago. The calcium & iron we take plus the surgical changes can really stop things up! My nut had me add a fiber supplement, which helped somewhat, but my primary doc has also OK'd Milk of Magnesia which I now take every other night... really helps, and is gentle (once I realized I only needed 1/2 the recomended dose).

They say you should avoid the ex-lax and dulcolax products and others that are stimulants... what we need are softeners. MoM is good because it works by bringing water into the digestive tract and is not a stimulant. My doc says regular use is OK.

Also... are you getting in at least 64 oz. (a gallon!) of water per day? This is important... extra fiber won't help as much unless you're meeting or exceeding your water goals.

My doctor told me that I needed to be alert to possible bowel obstructions due to the severity of my scar tissue.  So of course, that in itself has made me paranoid!  My question... I haven't had a BM since Tuesday, 5 days ago... I am two weeks out from surgery tomorrow.  Is this normal or should I be taking a stool softener?

Sorry to be so gross, but I'm a bit concerned

Thanks!

Topic: RE: I need to stay off the main board...
You know, I think I get where the negative energy comes from... we have so much "mental crap" saved up from a lifetime of uncontrolled emotional eating... as we change, some of that can't help but get channeled. For example, I find myself less tolerant sometimes. I try to keep an eye on it... am I being more healthy, expressing myself, not just taking the crap from people I used to... or am I being selfish and forgetting my values of being other-oriented? It's a tough tightrope personally, as I believe SOME of my personal issues that led me to turn to food for consolation over the years were due to feeling like I smushed a lot of my personal needs to get along... listened to other people's problems but didn't "burden" them with mine, that kind of thing.

So... I totally get the forgetting that goes on... I find myself sometimes feeling very strongly like slapping someone for their question, which isn't how I used to feel... when it's a subject I've learned about and feel like everyone should have learned about by now. "How could they go through surgery without knowing THAT?" or some such uncareful thinking.

All of this understanding doesn't mean I like reading the crap on the main board any more than the rest of you, ha ha! I get the daily email update of the Q & A, and when I have time I like to answer those questions as kindly as I can if I have something to contribute that others haven't already said. I really do feel the need to "give back" as part of this process. It's funny... I've been sniffing around WLS for over six years, but am only 8 weeks post-op from my own RNY. I'm simultaneously a newbie and also sometimes tired of this subject!

Thank you all for your good energy... so much appreciated by me.

Thanks guys!

I'm still pinching myself... I'm into uncharted (or not anytime recently anyway) territory, weight-wise. Getting used to people telling me I'm "melting away." Still having the nagging doubts... can I keep it up, will I gain again, will I get close to my personal goal of 180 pounds (insurance weight for men at 5' 8" is 150, believe it or not). Hard to get the naggy part of my mind to shush.

Thanks for this story! My late momma was a birder longstanding, and I find the birdie-lover gene is beginning to express itself in my life. This was lovely!
