Topic: Happy Surgiversary Lilitu!
It's been 3 years since our lovely Lilitu had her surgery. I am very grateful for whatever happened to bring her here and I'm looking forward to doing this again next year! Congrats and thank you for being such a loving part of our family here where no one sits at the head of the table. I just started the group....(OK I have moderator priviledges) but you know what I mean. Everyone is equally important and unique. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Topic: RE: NEW MEMBERS! Help Introduce Yourself!
Well, just a quick (maybe) introduction. I am 67 years old, and married for 30 years, together for 31 years to my very best friend and loving husband. He supports me totally in this WLS journey. He is very worried about my co-morbidities shortening my life. I really did not gain weight until I was in my late 30's and quite smoking whereupon I gained 100 lbs. in a year and have continued to go up and down from there. I have been on every weight loss plan devised by man.
I have always loved exercise but my weight has ddstroyed my back, knees,, etc. I have had a spnal fusion, both knees replaced etc. Last year on a hospittal, plan of shakes I lost 60 lbs. but after getting off of the shakes I have put all but 6 lbs. back on. When I was at my lowest, I was swimming a mile three days a week and doing weight training two days a week and playing golf 2-3 times a week.
Right now, I am swimming 1/2 to 1 mile 2- 3 days a week and hoping after this surgery to get back to weight training and golf.
Well I guess I did ramble on, but I so enjoy reading about everyone else and knowing that I am not alone in this battle. I have no pets, but we have 5 children with 5 spouses and 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
One of my major goals is to go on a two month motorcycle trip on our Harley next July when My DH retires. We will travel from Dayton, Ohio to Anchorage Alaska, down to Seattle Washington and then on back home. Maybe I will get to meet some OH buddies alonng the way.

Topic: RE: Vitamins - advice?
Thank you!!!
You know I am afraid I won't do well with the chewables. Heck I can't stand the thought of chewing up a flinstones or any other kiddie vitamin. Ewww, yuck! What am I going to do??? My booklet states that we must do chewables for 12 weeks. Dayum!

Woo hoo - just one more day.
I can honestly say that I haven't "craved" anything this past weeek. I have been focused on what's to come - but I've been seriously "hungry" - and I handled it well. I have been laughing about it really. But I can't wait for a reprieve from my my tummy saying "FEED ME SUZY"...LOL.

Thank you all so very much for taking the time to reply! I must say, that reading all your responses, really makes me feel much better! Also, after visiting my doctors on Wednesday, I feel MUCH more relaxed about the op. I know that I'm in THE BEST hands possible, and I have so many to live for. Yes, I need to work on that half glass full mentality! Yvonne, I'm doing very good thank you! Did you get my last email?
I'm starting with my soft food diet tomorrow for a week. So I'm busy preparing myself mentally, but it's difficult for me being a "food addict". Very difficult when I think I'll have to give up my "comfort" - i.e. food - for the next couple of months. But I know I have to do it!!! Just busy sorting my head out!
I've scheduled another session with my psychologist for the day before my surgery, just to settle the nerves. Going to see my loved-ones the night before surgery, and just for in case also going to write letters to them. To say all I've always wanted to say...
Thanks again for the replies... I know I will live, and I know I will live in abundance!!!

Hey there CosmicFlower! I just want you to know that this is all very normal. If you want, read some of my early blogs. I felt very much the same way as you. But one thing I did to calm myself was to look at the stats. I am not sure the DS stats on fatalities, but I am sure it is about the same as RNY, which was less than 1% on a national average, and my doc was even like less than a half of a percent. So the way I looked at it was "hey, there's more than 99% chance that I will be okay". Those were pretty good odds to me :) I always try to be a "glass is half full" type of guy and this helped me a lot. I also tried to look at my chances of surviving at over 400 lbs. I didn't like those odds very good. I want to be there and live a long happy, healthy life with my wife and I didn't want to die at 40 from a massive heart attack. I mean it when I say RNY saved my life. I really don't think I would have made it past 40 the way I was going and now, after I have been out 4 months, the future seems wide open to me. I have lost about 100 lbs so far and look forward to what my future hold. Hang in there. You can do it.

It's about to get much easier. You won't have to worry about this for about a year. In the meantime though....just develop those good lifestyle changes and stick around here and we'll hold your hand. You might feel some of the "irritable, restless and discontent" feelings in a few weeks that comes from not being able to self medicate with food. Not to worry, it will pass and you can talk to us! This is the toughest part of the hunger thing right now. You're doing a good thing....shrinking your liver so they can operate easier. I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!

I didn't do well with chewable multi-vitamins. I choked them down the first few weeks but as soon as I could swallow larger things I went back to my Centrum vitamins and use a pill cutter to cut them in half. Maybe I just didn't get the right chewables!! IDK?! I'm doing fine with cutting my vitamins in half.
I LOVE my Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Chewy bits--I have them in chocolate, lemon and raspberry and like them all. They are delicious!!
Good luck with your surgery!!!!
